TheWakePlace Videos
With the last update of the site, we moved over to Quicktime for streaming our videos. This allowed us to maintain the highest quality possible, whilst keeping the file size small. The Quicktime player is so robust, that nothing can really beat it for video delivery. So some of you might have to wait a few minutes for the video to buffer, but rest assured that its worth the wait.
Video Reviews
Below every video on the site is a new review section. You don't need a login or password, just something to say and a keyboard! Just click on the 'Leave Comment' link, and you're all set to comment until you get bored. You can also reply to others posts, and give each video a rating with the new star rating system. Now go review stuff. . . .
Sesitec System 2.0
System 2.0 was first seen by the mainstream public at the RedBull Wakelab. The whole idea behind the cable is that you can make use of much smaller areas of water, and still run a full speed cable. Whats amazing about this system, is that you keep going backwards and forwards down the lake without stopping. We headed down to the Projects to get a closer look at the system and see what its all about. We caught up with Parks, Meagan Ethell and Nicola Butler who were there to session the cable.
The Projects
The Projects for those of you who don't know, is a pretty crazy slider park that is a short drive from the University of Central Florida. We took the chance to go shoot at the lake on two VERY cold mornings with Joel Adair, Nate Perry, Kris Salteski, Hamish Lowe and Lee Debuse. The local coaches laid down some of the best slides i have ever seen, and did them like they were nothing. Joel always goes for the big ollies and large gaps, whilst Nate and Kris tore apart the flat bar.
Johnny Tobaben Feature
He has had a Trick of the Day, and a Wreck of the Week - Johnny Tobaben hails from Georgia and is now a Clear Lake local here in Orlando. Johnny is probably the most polite and easy going riders out there, and has his tech tricks down real well! Riding on Hyperlite and with support from Body Glove, Johnny has set his sights on the competition scene - we're sure you'll see more of him in 2009.
Rathy Mini Feature
Rathy is a rare kind of rider, he just doesn't seem to get bothered or nervous about stuff - he just does it. I don't think we've ever seen such a laid back set that was so rediciously sick. Rathy has some hammers to lay down for sure, Pete 5, Toe 9, Back 7 - and you don't even want to know what else he's capable of. This should be the first of many Rathy vids.... enjoy!
Adam and Jimmy
Remember that Trick of the Day that we said was a teaser but everyone took it as some death defying trick? Well this is what the trailer was for - a rail session with Adam Errington and Jimmy Watson. This is the first in what we plan to be a series of videos on the site. We're not going to give anything away until its finished, but lets say that we're bringing some tricks from Hollywood to the wakeboard video scene. But before all that, go appreciate the fine rail work of these two....
Nick Davies
So after nearly a year, we are now bringing you another Nick Davies video. Nick was in town for a couple of weeks, and we got down to filming early on to make sure we got everything. Nick's riding is still some of the best in the world, and we haven't seen anyone who can understand edge control better than Nick. He will be back in Orlando in a little while, so this is just the tip of the iceburg guys....
Trip to Mt Dora
So the last 2 days have seen Nick Jones and Kyle Alberts have a Trick of the Day from our Mt Dora trip. Well here is the feature from our morning on a windy but quiet Mt Dora day. Nick Jones, Kyle Alberts, Alex Brown and Hamish lowe were on hand to lay down their runs in what was a pretty cool session. All of these guys are pushing their riding, you will see more of them without a doubt.
Adam Errington and the KaiMana Collection
2009 gear is popping up all over the place and for 2009 Adam Errington has his Mana board and Kai boots out for you all. With so many boards out there to choose from, we figured that it helps to have the riders talk through their set ups. Ronix have one of the strongest line ups for 2009, and the Mana is no exception. But let Adam tell you that.
Zane Schwenk, Jeff House and Corey Bradley take a set
So if you have been keeping up with the Tricks of the Day, you will know that all three of these guys were filmed a week or so ago. After lots of people loving the one off tricks, we figures that you were due the rest of the set - well, atleast some of it anyway. We had some real great conditions for this one, and all three laid down some pretty sick sets. Go check it out. . .
Harley Clifford Mini Feature
Harley is just coming to the end of his first season in Orlando. With him leaving in a week, we decided to put together a mini feature of some of the shots we had of him. Apart from being one of the most technical riders we've seen, he also kills it on rails, spins, kickers. . . you name it. Keep an eye on that Pro Tour standings next year, Harley will be all over it.
Austin Hair Mini Feature
Austin Hair is one of the more chilled out people we have filmed with, and he seems to let his riding do most of the talking. We caught up with Austin a few days back and came away with a mini feature section and a trick of the day. So go check out Austin Hair day.
Adam Errington and Harley Clifford
We caught up with Adam Errington and Harley Clifford during one of their 'training' sets with Mike Ferraro. These guys are the real life future of the sport, and its crazy to see what they're capable of. You will be seeing more from their training sets soon, so lets just take this video as a teaser people. . . .
Addison Reed Pt 3
Addison has been something of a regular on the site, and for good reason. Still with O'brien for 2008, we thought we would goof around with Addison for a day to see what came out. He also sat down and edited the section with us. With massive glides and most of the tech tricks under his belt, he is still a rider we rate very highly.
The Ronix Rail
The Ronix Rail from the 2007 Surf Expo. Ronix set up a rail to showcase their boards at the OWC. Team riders Danny Harf, Adam Errington, Chad Sharpe and Clay Fletcher were all there to session the gap rail. Parks was also on hand to drive them all - a cool little sesh' from some of the best.
Think Hard - Mini Feature
After a few months away from Orlando, we decided to go through all the tapes of footage we had to put together a mini feature. This video features riders from Chris O'Shea to Kaesen Suyderhoud. This is basically all the clips that we didn't put into the first showings of other videos - just as good, just not used.
Jeff Weatherall
Jeff Weatherall is one of the best riders to have ever come from somewhere other than the US. Hailing from New Zealand, Jeff spends his year following the sun between the US and Australian summers. Jeff kills it on a wakeboard, snowboard, surf board - any board really. He has back flipped a MX bike, and also does regular sky dives - i think we've said enough. . .
Florida Keys Pt 2
The Florida Keys is my favorite place to be i think. The calm Ocean, Island Lifestyle and amazing sunsets make it the best place you could ever want to spend your time. Add that together with spear fishing, swimming with nurse sharks and eating some pretty perfect food - and you have probably the best place on earth. If you're still unsure, check out the video.
Jeff & Chris O'shea
A perfect evening on Lake Jessamine meant that Jeff Weatherall and Chris O'shea could really show off their free riding talent. Without a doubt one of the most satisfying film sessions we have ever had, with plenty of smiles when we saw what we had filmed that day. Sick riding, Huge Wake, perfect conditions. . .
Nick Davies at OWC
Did someone say toeside backside 900? Our most popular video for the last 6 months - Nick Davies has blown up all over the world with his unique style on a wakeboard. Nick has a way of being able to make the most technical tricks look easy. I'll never forget standing with Shaun Murray during the first time he had seen Nick ride - "Wow" was what he said. Did someone say toeside backside 900?
Nick Davies Goes Big
Well what we mean by goes big is that the video is a larger size for y'all. We got together some of our favorite shots of Nick for this short teaser to the OWC video that we put together. You should start to hear quite a lot about this young fella in the months to come.
Adam Errington Boat Set
Mike Ferraro invited us down to film with Adam Errington, who i'm sure you're all familiar with. Adam blew us away with what was just a training run. Toe 9, Toe and Heel 7's, and a backside 5. Adam now has his own signature board from Ronix, and we can see why.
Addison Reed Feature
Orlando Local Addison Reed is one of those riders who rips but has yet to break the big time. I swear that if you give Addison a few attempts a a trick, he could land practically anything. The guys is super down to earth, and still enjoys his riding. Without a doubt one to watch for the future.
Kaesen Suyderhoud
Kaesen is from the west coast and bleeds that west coast style on a board. Kaesen reminds me of a cross between Ben Greenwood and Ricky Gonzales - lots of style on and off the water. Now riding on Slingshot, Kaesen is always up for filming and having fun. Yet another Orlando rider who will be in your faces more and more over the next bunch of months.
Dean Smith at OWC
By now, Dean Smith has probably had enough air time to get his own pilots licence. Sound stupid doesn't it, but this guy just goes unbelievably big off of everything he goes near. The kicker at OWC is no different, and here is a solid minute of Dean touching the clouds.
Andrew Atkinson with Corey Bradley
Andrew and Corey turned up to the cable to learn how to do some air tricks. It didn't take the two of them long to stick them before they tore up the rails. Apart from being crazy good on a board, they're both two of the nicest guys you could meet within wakeboarding. Check out the end of the video when Andrew gives you a riders eye view of a rail.
Julian Cohen Pt2
Julian Cohen is a very well know rider both in Orlando and on the Pro Tour. With a real smooth style, Julian is another rider in line to become the next top pro's in the sport. Riding for O'brien, Julian is still pushing hard on the Pro Tour and will no doubt make his mark in the years to come.
Addison Reed at OWC
Addison works at the Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC) and knows the slider park stupidly well. There isn't a rail or kicker on the water that he can't tear to pieces in fine style. Riding there everyday has made Addison develop a cool style on the boat, and one of the top riders to watch for 2009.
Nicola Butler Feature
There isn't much we could say about Nicola that hasn't been said before. 2008 has been Nicola's year, and has made history on the wakeboard tour. In the first year of the 'Queen of Wake' competition, Nicola has taken the top spot in the most competitive year in women's wakeboarding. She goes bigger and rides with more style than any other female on the circuit - she is also perfect for video sections. . .
Hamish Lowe
Hamish is one of the only UK riders to compete in the US Pro Wakeboard Tour. With a huge book of tricks, Hamish spends his time between the UK and Orlando summers. Over the last few months, Hamish has been going huge off of his Xstar wake, and no doubt he is yet another rider you will see more of in 2009.
Brad Smeele at OWC
Brad is part of the pretty exclusive 1080 club. Another New Zealand rider, Brad is a real powerful rider who can pretty much muscle through any trick out there. Brad has also got some pretty solid style both behind the boat and on the rails. Brad is destined for greatness in the industry, its just a matter of how soon
Brad Smeele at Clear Lake
Some crazy sick riding from Brad here, with some tech tricks in there too. We have never seen someone be so sure on their landings for tricks, and it almost seems like Brad never falls. Now on the Pro Tour, Brad will start to make his mark over 2009 for sure.
John Jefferies on Lake Jessamine
John is part of the Nike 6.0 team and for good reason. In less than perfect conditions John stomped a whole bunch of grabs and inverts. He has just come 12th on the Jr Pro Tour and will no doubt be back on the tour in 2009 to push hard for another year.
Florida Keys Pt1
We went on a trip to the Florida Keys to spend some time with our friend Sparky. We had VIP treatment for the time we were there, and got to do some amazing things. We put together a short version of our trip until we can get back to edit a full length version. So until then. . . enjoy!
James Young and Marc Rossiter
As part of the 2007 Relentless Energy wakeboard tour, James Young and Marc Rossiter ended up in a cold Oxford lake for a photo and video shoot. James and Marc defiantly seem to be near the very top of riders in the UK when it comes to being behind the boat. Even though they were a little hung over, they still had good sets.
2007 Surf Expo
Surf Expo is kind of the start of the year in the wakeboard industry. With every company making the trip down to the Orlando site, its a pretty cool weekend when Expo rolls into town. With all the new gear for 2008, we has some fun trekking through the stands. Go see what we saw.
STS-120 Shuttle Launch
Its not wakeboarding, but cool all the same. The Shuttle was taking off and we managed to get some VIP passes to go sit as close to the launch as you can get. So with our cameras packed ready, we headed out to the launch site to watch the bird take off. Its by far one of the most inspiring things you can see, and we look forward to doing it again.
